Gary Shoup

Gary Shoup left a career in finance to pursue a calling to teach. After enrolling in a graduate program, “Critical Studies in the Teaching of English,” he accepted a teaching post at a community college as a developmental English instructor. There he learned as much from his students who live at the margins of society as they did from him.

It was a rewarding and daunting experience, and he left with a deep sense of admiration for teachers who devote their lives to improve our world. Shortly after Shoup retired from teaching, Suma the Elephant made its debut in bookstores and online. Independently published, it continues to gain word-of-mouth recognition from coast to coast.
